Truck Driver in Court For Stealing 17.8 million naira Diesel fuel
A diesel truck driver named John Mathias allegedly stole diesel fuel worth N17.8 million, belonging to Umaru Musa of Haido Oil and Gas in Lagos was granted N2.1 million bail.
The 45 year old John Mathias is standing trial on charges of conspiracy and stealing.
Assistant Superintendent Of Police, Peter Nwangwu, told the court that Mr John stole 90,000 litres of diesel fuel which was loaded in two trucks on the 10th of January at 6.00p.m. at Ibeto Oil and Gas Depot and Integrated Oil and Gas, both located at Apapa, Lagos.
Peter Nwangwu alleged that Mr John conspired with others still at large to steal the product.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Yewande Aje-Afunwa in her ruling said that the John should provide two sureties as part of the bail terms.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, The Chief Magistrate said that one of the sureties must be a Lagos landlord and should be gainfully employed and both sureties should show proof of tax payments to the State government.
According to the ASP, Mr John was later apprehended by the police after investigation.
